Bead String (V, T)

The bead strings are comprised of groups of five contrasting beads set between a fixed locking bead.  A little (0.5cm) spare ribbon has been left between the locking beads so that the five beads  can be moved along the ribbon, like beads on an abacus, as well as being able to be turned round and round.  The beads have been especially chosen because of their contrasting appearance  and to appeal to your child's sense of touch.  Made from wood, silicone, merino wool, acrylic and metallic plastic, the beads present a wide variety of shape, size and texture.

Narrow ribbon, for extra strength, has been used to thread the beads and this has been tied into a circlet that is too small to fit over a child's head and become a strangulation risk but please check to confirm that it is too small for your child's head.

An information leaflet accompanies the bead string and this suggests ways of using the beads with your child.  As well as talking through the different beads with your child, noticing the different colours, patterns and shapes of the beads, you can encourage your child to touch or hold the beads by using a hand-over-hand technique where you use your hands to guide your child's hands and fingers.

Cost:  £5.00

Even though care has been taken to make the bead string as safe as possible, beads are small objects and could be a choking hazard to young children and those who mouth their toys.  Please inspect the bead string before each use and always supervise your child. NOT recommended for children under 6 years.
